Master planned assisted living community.

Our client’s goal was to develop a self-sustaining community for this small village in Montana. Throughout the project design, our design directive evolved; however, our initial goal was to arrive at a minimal community of small cabins anchored at each end by a Senior Community Center and an Assisted Living Facility. There were a number of issues to overcome regarding road access, grading, and historic buildings on the site.

Early in the process, we focused on using Passive House design engineering standards for all of the structures. We laid out the Senior Community Center with a solar wall and access to the roof for solar panels. We also worked with the grade of the site, the solar access, the views, the road access and other natural features.

Shown here are 4 versions of our initial design work. This work consists of preliminary layout of the site with various building combinations. We also provided preliminary design for a “Passive House” cottage to be built throughout the development.

Currently we are waiting to see how the market conditions and funding availability develop.
