Community Service

  • Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation – GINGERBREAD HOUSES AT THE SHERATON HOTEL 2011
For decades, the JDRF group has been raising funds to research cures and improve the lives of those with juvenile diabetes.  This effort at the Sheraton to raise awareness and funds has a 19-year history.  4D has had the opportunity to collaborate with the creative chefs at the Sheraton for 13 of those years.  Each year, principals, staff members, and their families volunteer hundreds of hours to design and construct these elaborate gingerbread structures for display and auction to benefit the JDRF.  4D has been honored to receive many awards over the years, including the coveted People’s Choice in 2008 for their "Everyone is a Super Hero" city..  Past themes have included “The Polar Express”, “A Reel Christmas”, and “Home for the Holidays”.

Join us, along with five other architectural firms and the great chefs of the Sheraton, to see six mind bending gingerbread scenes this holiday season.  This year we are going for gold and hope to share this family friendly event with even more Seattle families.  Look for these fabulous creations between November 24th and January 2nd. Each year we have lots of fun participating in this exciting event that benefits a very worthwhile cause.  Please visit http://gingerbreadvillage.myevent.com/ for more information on this event.

  • At the 2008 Gingerbread House fundraiser for Juvenile Diabetes, 4D Architects was honored to receive the Peoples Choice award for their “Everyone is a Super Hero” City.

  • Habitat for Humanity
The Principals and staff members have volunteered for this worthy cause several times, donating design time and construction documents for a home in Sammamish, and assisting with construction of this and other homes.
  • High School Students – Job Shadowing
Over the years, principals and staff members have volunteered to have many high school students ‘look over their shoulders’ for a day or two. This program was designed by schools to help students get a feel for a potential career path.
  • Expanding Your Horizons – Career Guidance Workshops for Girls
Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics™ conferences nurture girls' interest in science and math courses to encourage them to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.  As volunteers, Barbara and other staff members have led classes in these one-day workshops for more than 15 years.
