Seattle Street of Dreams
4D Architects has participated in the Seattle Street of Dreams since 1985, designing more than 25 of the show homes over the years. Several of the homes have won multiple awards, including Best in Show, Best Architectural Design, and four regional MAME Gold awards.
Northwest Flower and Garden Show
For the 2008 show, Ben Mulder, Principal of 4D Architects, designed and constructed the ‘Sommarstuga’ (Summer Cottage) structure that was an integral part of the display. The design team, including many volunteers from 4D Architects, took home Best in Show, the Founder's Cup, Sunset Magazine's Western Living® Award, and a Gold Medal (photos).
John L Scott Quality Street Showcase of Exceptional Homes 2004
The “Master’s Classic” was awarded Best Architectural Design and was published in Custom Builder magazine, January 2007. The “St. Andrews” was also designed for this showcase.
Best in American Living Award(co-sponsored by Professional Builder magazine and the National Association of Homebuilders)
In 2001, “The Easthaven,” designed for the Street of Dreams, received the Platinum award for Best One-of-a-Kind Spec Home – 6,501 Square Feet and Over. In 1989, the S.0.D. home, The “Paloma,” received a Grand Award.
Community Service
JDF Gingerbread House November 2009 – Ben Mulder designed and constructed this years “Polar Express” display for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. 4D Architects Inc. staff, family and friends donated hundreds of hours decorating it with hot glue, frosting and candy to the “The Polar Express” at the Sheraton Hotel. The theme this year was “A Reel Christmas”, and featured eight larger than life displays honoring holiday movie favorites. The donations from this event benefit a worthwhile cause, raising funds for research in preventing and treating Juvenile Diabetes. Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Annual Gingerbread Display at the Seattle Sheraton Principals and staff members volunteer up to hundreds of hours per year to design and construct these elaborate gingerbread structures for display and auction to benefit the JDRF. Many awards have been received over the years, including the coveted Peoples Choice.
At the 2008 Gingerbread House fundraiser for Juvenile Diabetes, 4D Architects was honored to receive the Peoples Choice award for their “Everyone is a Super Hero” City.
Habitat for Humanity
The Principals and staff members have volunteered for this worthy cause several times, donating design time and construction documents for a home in Sammamish, and assisting with construction of this and other homes.
High School Students – Job Shadowing
Over the years, principals and staff members have volunteered to have many high school students ‘look over their shoulders’ for a day or two. This program was designed by schools to help students get a feel for a potential career path.
Expanding Your Horizons – Career Guidance Workshops for Girls
Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics™ conferences nurture girls' interest in science and math courses to encourage them to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. As volunteers, Barbara and other staff members have led classes in these one-day workshops for more than 15 years.
